This summer's world soccer tournament will bring excitement, energy, and visitors from around the world to Ontario. Be prepared for increased activity at your establishment so you can continue to provide safe and responsible sales.
Key Areas to Review Before Tournament Activity Increases
Age Verification
- Check for valid ID. To be valid, ID must be government-issued, have a photo and date of birth, and not be expired. Staff must always check ID of anyone appearing under 25 prior to entering the store and cannot sell to minors.
- Physical ID only (not a screenshot or copy).
Responsible Sales
- Refuse sale where required. This could include, for example, minors or intoxicated people.
- Ensure retail staff are properly trained from an AGCO Board-approved program.
Operations
- Sell only during permitted hours. This could be between 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- Hours for opening and curbside pick-up were recently extended to permit opening earlier, at 7:00 am. See the information bulletin for details.
- Note: Delivery time remains 9:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. and can only be made to a residence or private place in Ontario (for instance, a hotel room would be considered a private place).
- Ensure ads and promotions follow all legislative requirements including AGCO and federal rules.
Reminder: Submit your incident-based notifications on time.
Follow the timing set out in the Regulatory Reporting Requirements , and see the Retail Reporting page for information .
