The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has approved a temporary extension of liquor sale and service hours across Ontario for the last day of the 2026 Olympic Games.
Eligible liquor sales licensees province-wide may begin selling and serving alcohol at 6:00 a.m. on February 22, 2026. The standard closing time of 2:00 a.m. remains unchanged.
The extension applies to indoor licensed areas only and does not apply to outdoor licensed areas (e.g., patios).
All licensees must continue to comply with the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019 (LLCA), its regulations and the Registrar’s standards and requirements. Responsible sale and service of alcohol remain mandatory.
Municipal option to object to extension of hours
A municipality may formally object to the extension by submitting a Municipal Resolution or letter from the City Clerk to municipal@agco.ca. If a municipality objects, the standard hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. will remain in effect in those municipalities.
A list of municipalities where the extension does not apply will be posted below this Information Bulletin. Licensees should confirm whether their municipality is included.
