Industry Promotional Events

Industry Promotional Event permits are intended for promoting a manufacturer’s product through sampling.

These events can be either for invited guests or advertised to the public.

Samples for tasting at the event may be provided to guests free of charge (under a No Sale permit – see Classes of SOPs below) or may be sold on a cost-recovery basis (under a Sale permit). However, there can be no intent to gain or profit from the sale of alcohol at the event.

Samples at Industry Promotional Events must be provided by a manufacturer, a licensed representative or an event organizer acting on behalf of a manufacturer or manufacturer’s representative.

Orders for alcohol may be taken, but no retailing of alcohol is permitted at the event.

Classes of SOPs

There are two classes of Special Occasion Permits (SOP) available:

Sale: A Sale SOP is issued when money is collected for the sale of alcohol either directly or indirectly. This could be through, for example, an admission charge to the event, when tickets for alcohol are sold to people attending the event, or when there is any pre-collection of money for the alcohol. The application fee for a Sale Permit is $150.00 for each day of the event.

No Sale: A No Sale SOP is issued when alcohol is served without charge or when there is no money collected for alcohol – either directly or indirectly – from guests.

The application fee for a No Sale Permit is $50.00 per day.
