In support of cannabis retailers,  the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is extending the implementation date of the new Standards: Registrar’s Standards for Cannabis Retail Stores using the Point-of-Sale (POS) Data Reporting Platform. The new POS requirement originally planned to begin on April 1, 2024, will now take effect on July 1, 2024.

The extension is expected to provide ample time to cannabis retailers to transition to the new POS Platform. Please be aware that retailers who fail to comply with this requirement by the deadline would be in violation of the Standards and may result in regulatory action.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • If they have not already done so, retailers should contact their POS provider to verify that they are working with the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) to integrate their POS system with the new POS Data Reporting Platform.
  • If a retailers’ current POS provider is not working with the OCS, they can explore other providers listed at: POS Provider List – OCS Wholesale

Change in Standards

When the new Standards take effect on July 1, 2024, the current Registrar’s Standards for Cannabis Retail Stores using the Point-of-Sale Data Reporting Platform will be renamed “Registrar’s Standards for Cannabis Retail Stores”. The current Registrar’s Standards for Cannabis Retail Stores, which, at the moment, co-exist with these new Standards, will cease to be in effect.

The new solution will help reduce the burden of data collection and improve efficiencies for retailers. It will automate the creation of required monthly reports directly from the retailer’s existing data and provide on-demand reports.

It will also improve the accuracy of the data submitted to better meet provincial and federally mandated regulatory reporting requirements.
