On July 3, 2019, the Government of Ontario announced its plans for a second allocation of cannabis retail store authorizations.

Ontario Regulation 468/18 under the Cannabis Licence Act, 2018 has been amended to reflect this new allocation. The Regulation establishes that the AGCO must use a method for selecting applicants that does not rely on the discretion of the Registrar or of any other person.

As a result, the AGCO is holding an Allocation Lottery to allow pre-qualified prospective cannabis operators to apply for a Retail Operator Licence for one of 42 retail store authorizations in Ontario.

The Regulation was also amended to allow the AGCO to authorize 8 additional retail stores on First Nations reserves. Information on the application process for these stores can be found on the Stores on First Nations Reserves portal.

Inquiries about the Lottery Rules or application process can be directed to AGCO Customer Service at 416-326-8700 (1-800-522-2876 toll-free in Ontario) or submitted via iAGCO.

Please subscribe to our cannabis email list to receive regular updates as information becomes available.

Note: this portal relates only to the second allocation of stores - Allocation lottery.  Information about the first allocation Expression of Interest lottery, which took place in January, 2019, can be found on the First Allocation of stores - Expression of Interest Lottery portal.
